With the new Octo Finissimo Ultra timepiece, the Roman watchmaker sets another world record
Bulgari has achieved yet another feat as a watchmaker with its new Octo Finissimo Ultra timepiece, which measures only 1.8mm in height. That makes it the thinnest mechanical watch in the world, breaking a record that was previously set by Piaget.
With the Octo Finissimo Ultra, Bulgari now has eight world records under it belt, mostly owing to the Roman watchmaker’s Octo line of luxury timepieces that it launched 10 years ago.

“We had to break the rules not only in terms of movement design but also of the case, the caseback, the bracelet and the folding clasp,” said Bulgari Watch Division product creation executive director Fabrizio Buonamassa Stigliani.
“To achieve this degree of thinness, you not only have to review your way of thinking, but you must also draw upon a wide range of skills, play with multiple materials and adapt to a multitude of new constraints,” he explained. “In this sense, the Octo Finissimo Ultra is unquestionably the ultimate complication in this vast field of possibilities represented by ultra-miniaturisation.”
To add to the seemingly two-dimensional design of the watch, Bulgari also engraved a QR code onto the Octo Finissimo Ultra’s barrel. When scanned, the watch’s owner is redirected to an online portal dedicated the timepiece, where they can discover its design and history.
Technology also comes into play in another way: each owner of the ten limited editions available will be given an exclusive non-fungible token (NFT) artwork, certifying the authenticity of their watch. In this way, Bulgari takes the bond between a watch and its owner beyond the physical realm.
