Van Cleef & Arpels Virtually Opens Its School Of Jewellery Arts To The Public
Jewellery addicts cannot possibly be unacquainted with Van Cleef & Arpels' jewellery academy, L'ÉCOLE. With two permanent campuses, the original one in Paris and the new in Hong Kong, the school opens doors to the world of jewellery arts to anybody with the passion. And now it is doing so virtually.
This is the best time for a masterclass in jewellery as Van Cleef & Arpels' School of Jewellery Arts is launching a series of online video tutorials. Categorised into three lists, there are over 20 finely crafted films for aficionados that are both informative and entertaining. Here's what to expect:
1/3 Art History of Jewellery
In this series, you will learn of the different periods of jewellery, the role of jewellery and how they are represented in the arts. From the history of the engagement ring to the talismans of prominent figures from the past, you will be exposed to diverse ideologies and aesthetics of different eras and cultures.
2/3 The Universe of Gemstones
Enter into the universe of gemstones to explore the beliefs and values surrounding rare and precious materials like emeralds, sapphires and rubies. Learn why these stones are so coveted and revered beyond their rarity since antiquity. In this series, you will learn of the varieties of gemstones, including those derived from living creatures like pearls and corals.
Jewellery cannot exist without craftsmanship. In this part of the class, you will learn about the oldest and the most popular method of jewellery-making, the lost-wax technique, or the art of casting metal from wax. From Aztec civilisation to modern times, the savoir-faire is valued for its enablement of detailed and complex pieces of jewellery.
