A perpetual supporter of excellence, Rolex has been a long-time patron in the world of arts and culture. Particularly, the brand has been intertwined with cinema for decades, and in 2017, Rolex became the proud sponsor of the Oscars, positioning itself as the exclusive watch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and founding supporter of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.

Even prior to its official relationship with the Oscars, Rolex has been responsible for the design of the Oscars’ Greenroom, coming up with a different theme each year. At this year’s award ceremony, Rolex once again designed the waiting room for Oscar presenters, this time taking guests under the sea with a submersible theme. The Greenroom featured retro architectural details that are a nod to  Rolex’s underwater expedition with brand ambassador James Cameron to the Challenger Deep. The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Deep-Sea Special, which accompanied the director to the deepest part of the Mariana Trench, was also displayed in the room.

The underwater theme is a continuum of the brand's Perpetual Planet campaign, a partnership between Rolex and National Geographic to reinforce the exploration and conservation of indispensable natural resources.
