Runway Trend: Pouches For Men
The pint-sized bag took over fashion week for spring/summer 2020 last month, with luxury brands—think Coach, Burberry and Gucci—fawning fresh new looks for men—many with a bag in hand, on the shoulder or strapped neatly across the chest and waist. The verdict?
The smaller the bag, the better.
From the cross-body to the clutch, belt-bag to messenger, here are nine micro-bags to wear straight off the runways of London, Paris, Milan and New York:
1/9 Baguette bag by Fendi
Italian fashion house Fendi has released its famous ‘baguette’ bag for men. In silver metallic, this leather belt-bag will brighten up a basic look (think crisp white tee, sneakers and jeans) and is a statement piece paired with classic tailoring.
Available at Fendi.
2/9 Shoulder bag by Gucci
A redo on the classic shoulder bag, this unisex leather bag is unmistakably Gucci, thanks to its 70’s red-hue stamped in gold with the Florentine house’s linked GG logo. Zip-top access and multiple pockets add to its functionality, while the matching strap can be detachable and adjustable for a more compact use.
Available at Gucci.
3/9 Messenger bag by Mulberry
This Mulberry leather bag is a mini version of the London brand’s traditional messenger bag. In oxblood grained leather and gold metal trim, the ‘Small Antony’ is smart enough to take to the office, with an understated elegance that’s perfect for casual days. And the leather will only get better with age.
Available at Mulberry.
4/9 Cross-body bag by Versace
Versace’s cross-body bag adds a sports-punk punch. In techy nylon with a red-and-blue tartan, the bag’s black Grecian strap softens the bold check. The hit of royal plaid, works best with a monochrome look.
Available at Versace.
5/9 Pouch by Alexander McQueen
Add some East London-style into your wardrobe with a micro-bag from Alexander McQueen. Made from black calfskin, the simple pouch—with versatile double zipper opening—is both roomy (for a glorified wallet) and cool; toughened up by the UK brand’s rocking logo: this season a spattering of silver metal studs to reveal that iconic McQueen skull.
Available at Alexander McQueen.
6/9 Clutch by Salvatore Ferragamo
For high-end minimalism, you can’t look past Salvatore Ferragamo. This multi-compartment clutch is dotted with Ferragamo’s Gancini logo across the front, adding visual depth to the black leather accessory. With the style work done; simply slip your hand into the practical front-handle and carry it away.
Available at Ferragamo.
7/9 Cross-body bag by Burberry
This cross-body from Burberry is designed for every dress code and any occasion. In creamy nylon, the green monogram bag features an army of interlocked B’s, trimmed with black leather and polished silver hardware for unassuming refinement. Stay with the strap or leave it at home, then hit the day: styled and organised.
Available at Burberry.
8/9 Wallet bag by Jacqemus
‘Le Gadjo’ by French designer Jacquemus is the accessory-find you didn’t know you needed. Translated to mean “little brother”, this wallet-turned-bag comes in classic tan leather and features a zip-around closure with plenty of card space in between. The shorter strap design means it’s best worn down the front around the neck, keeping your precious cash in full view at all times.
Available at Jacquemus.
9/9 Belt bag by Tom Ford
A luxury take on the 90s belt-bag, Tom Ford has released a high-end version of a once-considered style faux pas. In a smooth white leather shell with nylon-canvas strap, the statement gold zips elevate the simplicity of the outer panel. Wear yours around the waist to play on the retro, or belt it across the chest for a more modern look.
Available at Tom Ford.
