K-Pop Star Kai Creates A Teddy Bear Collection With Gucci
After constantly being photographed in Alessandro Michele’s designs for the Italian luxury house, EXO boyband member, Kai, earned the nickname “Human Gucci”. As such, the creative director of Gucci has decided to make the 26-year-old Korean talent the star of the latest special collection, one that is named after him and features a cuddly plushie as the capsule's main motif.
"This is the first time Gucci has launched a collection with a Korean celebrity. I am incredibly grateful and just as thrilled. It’s not easy to have a collection with your name. It’s a huge opportunity and an act of fortune, so I’m at a loss of words to describe how happy I am that it came to me," said Kai in an interview with Esquire Korea. The Kai X Gucci capsule collection highlights a classic childhood toy—the teddy bear, wearing a blue bow tie—which becomes the reoccurring motif throughout a collection of sneakers, small leather goods, handbags and ready-to-wear for both sexes.
For fans, the video campaign for this collaboration is not to be missed. Celebrating the relationship between humans and their furry friends, the one-minute clip produced by South Korean photographer Min Hyunwoo and film director Woogie Kim stars Kai with his own furry friends on the streets of Seoul. Kai is dressed in clothes and accessories from the new collection as he enjoys his day out buying balloons with his giant teddy before driving out to meet up with friends. Watch it below:
Known for huge bear-shaped artworks, Seoul-based pop artist Im Jibin also partnered with Gucci in light of the Kai X Gucci collection. Im creates impromptu art spaces around the world by placing huge Bear Balloons with the word “Hello” on their faces, for an art project he refers to as Everywhere. Gucci has produced two giant Bear Balloons with Im: one brown and one white, both wearing a blue bow tie reminiscent of the teddies in the Kai collection.
