From how celebrities get in touch with jewellers to prepare for a big event to dressing two of the biggest names for this year’s Academy Awards, Alisa Moussaieff shares what it’s like adorning the stars
At Hollywood’s biggest award ceremony, two women stood out this year: Michelle Yeoh for becoming the first Asian woman in Oscar history to win Best Actress in a Leading Role; and Rihanna for Lift Me Up, her song for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever that earnt the singer her first Oscar nod.
Rihanna and Yeoh may have been nominated in two very different categories, but they had one thing in common: they both wore Moussaieff jewels for the big night. Rihanna’s was a splendid affair in orangey-brown diamonds, which perfectly complemented her Alaia ensemble that she walked the champagne carpet in; while Yeoh was a vision in all-white gemstones.
With arguably the hottest names in Hollywood dripping in Moussaieff jewels at the Oscars, the exclusive high jewellery purveyor is definitely enjoying a moment in the sun. At the centre of the family business is 91-year-old Alisa Moussaieff, a doyenne in the diamond and precious stone market, who told Tatler that “[our] jewellery complements Michelle, as much as Michelle complemented the jewellery… I think Michelle is great. But this time, she was the greatest”.
With Rihanna, who Moussaieff hails as a “very brave girl”, the jeweller says, “She knows exactly what she wants and exactly what’s good for her dress. She chose a pair of earrings with orangey-brown and yellow diamonds, an orangey-brown diamond ring and another dark brown diamond ring.”
