Malaysian model Shikin Gomez weighs in on this controversial style choice

Nothing divides opinions more than matching couple looks. It can bring great delight to hopeless romantics or inspire great ire for those who find the whole concept to be tacky and cringeworthy. Nevertheless, we continue to see it everywhere, from everyday couples on the streets of Kuala Lumpur to glamorous celebrity duos on the red carpet of global award shows and movie premieres.

This Valentine's Day, Tatler checks in with newlywed couple, Shikin Gomez and Rami Aladdin, to find out how they feel about the polarising style trend.

"Personally, couple outfits are not for me," shares the Malaysian model. "My husband disagrees. He thinks it's cute, so he waits until I'm dressed and secretly changes into something matching because he knows I hate it!

"I believe in expressing your individuality through fashion but I'm not one to box my partner in with my ideas," she says.

It appears Gomez relents on the rule on special occasions, such as festive holidays, weddings, and of course, Halloween. "Rami's favourite couple look of all time is when we dressed in matching all-black outfits as Neo and Trinity from The Matrix for Halloween."

Matching or not, Shikin Gomez and Rami Aladdin remain one of the most stylish in the Tatler community.
