The Chinese actress’s Christopher Bu gown stole the show, but the star also served other equally dramatic looks by other Asian designers last month
Fan Bingbing knows how to do Cannes right. A veteran at the film festival, the Chinese actress shone on the red carpet this year in 15 different looks in 11 days.
While each ensemble flattered her perfectly, it’s awesome to see Fan choosing to spotlight Asian designers through the gowns she wore to the event, which included Christopher Bu, Miss Sohee and Cheney Chan.
“I tend to lean towards new or niche labels,” Fan wrote in a recent Instagram post. “The reason behind this choice is my love for exploring bold experimentation with different styles and trends.”
Here we look at the Asian designers that caught the star’s attention.

1. Christopher Bu
This isn’t the first time Fan wore Bu to Cannes. In 2011, the actress walked the opening ceremony’s red carpet in a scarlet gown embroidered with white cranes by Bu. Not only that, Chinese designer also said in an interview with Jing Daily in 2013 that she’s the one who had encouraged him to open his own label.
Bu designs both ready-to-wear lines inspired by his travels and couture collections heavily influenced by elements of Chinese culture. A stunning example of this is the opulent tiger-and-bamboo motif gown that Fan wore this year to the premiere of the historical film starring Johnny Depp, Jeanne du Barry.
