The beloved actress’s treasures will hit the action block this December

Widely known—and loved—for her extravagant lifestyle and lavish tastes, Elizabeth Taylor had a wardrobe to rival the best of them, and select pieces will be up for grabs—just in time for the holidays. Items available at auction this December will include a gold coin-chain belt from Cartier, a silk caftan, a studded black leather Versace biker jacket, to name a few. The personal treasures will be transported across the Atlantic on the Queen Mary 2 ocean liner, where passengers will be able to have an advanced look at the selection of accessories and clothing.

However, this isn’t the first time the silver screen icon’s personal effects go up for auction. Following Elizabeth Taylor’s death in 2011, a week-long Christie’s auction was held. Items included a larger collection of the star’s luxury dresses, jewellery, and fine art. The auction pulled in approximately USD$156 million in sales.

Martin Nolan, the executive director of Julien's Auctions, which is hosting the sale, says this time, items will cover a larger range of price points, some of which carry pre-sale estimates of just USD$200 to $400, meaning a much larger group of fans will have a chance to own a piece of Taylor’s wardrobe.

"I think people will be surprised that they will be able to actually acquire and afford to have something from the amazing Elizabeth Taylor," he told AFP.

The gold coin-chain belt from Cartier, for example, was a gift from Taylor to her mother, which reads "To My 'Hippy' Mom All my love Elizabeth." The house estimates the belt will go between $1,000 and $2,000, whereas the Versace jacket has an estimated sale price between $4,000 to $6,000.
