Yesterday saw the end of Wimbledon 2018 and while tennis enthusiasts had their eyes peeled for the tournament’s most anticipated matches, the rest of us were eyeing the stylish getups spotted in the audience. Those who’ve followed Wimbledon over the years will be aware of the event's strict dress code. While the rules for spectators have become more lenient over the years with the previous shirt-and-tie requirement dropped, there’s still an unspoken expectation that guests come looking their best. So here we’ve gathered the 10 best looks spotted amongst the crowd of the biggest tennis tourney of the year.

The Duchess of Cambridge

Spotted at the match on Saturday with her beloved Prince William, Kate Middleton took the vibrant route, showing up in a stunning sunshine-yellow dress by Dolce & Gabbana. With light, ruffled sleeves and a small bow broach, she completed the look with her signature wavy hair, delicate necklace and an elegant earth toned handbag.

The Duchess of Sussex

For her first official solo outing with her sister-in-law, Meghan Markle decided to go for head-to-toe Ralph Lauren with a blue and white striped button-down silk shirt and chic wide-legged white trousers. The duchess accessorised with a Givenchy saddle bag and the same wide-brimmed Panama hat she wore to Wimbledon two years ago. (Kate's not the only royal who likes to recycle fashion items.) Fun fact: Meghan didn’t put on the hat this year as those seated in the Royal Box are encouraged not to wear hats to avoid blocking the view of those around them.

Emma Watson

Strikingly similar to Meghan Markle’s get-up was Emma Watson’s outfit for the matches. Absolutely stunning in a sharp, all-white aesthetic, the charming British actress made a statement in a sophisticated three-piece suit, also from Ralph Lauren. Pairing a button-up vest and blazer with billowy trousers very similar to those Meghan Markle wore, she complemented the look with a chic white boater and dangly silver earrings. The perfect OOTD for a summery day outdoors.

Alexa Chung and Poppy Delevingne

Of course, while we have British royalty, we also have fashion royalty, such as the gorgeous Alexa Chung and Poppy Delevingne. Standing next to one another, the two it-girls opted for contrasting looks. While Poppy Delevingne went for a spunky look, pairing a statement graphic tee with a cute blue miniskirt, Alexa Chung opted for a breezy number, pairing a flowing white dress with chic sunnies. Despite the differing looks, both fashion icons decided to complement their outfits with sneakers, proving that the summer sneaker look never goes out of style regardless of seasonal trends.

Anna Wintour

Vogue editor Anna Wintour is known for being an icon in the fashion industry, as well as an avid tennis lover. She was spotted at this year’s championships wearing a strikingly colourful maxi dress, printed over with stunning abstract patterns. She accessorised with a statement necklace and her signature oversized sunglasses.

Eddie Redmayne

Men had their style game on too at this year's Wimbledon. Spotted in the Royal Box, the charismatic British actor was seated in between his wife Hannah Bagshawe and renowned actor Benedict Cumberbatch. Of course, only Eddie Redmayne with his easy-going charms and wide smiles can pull off sapphire blue so well. The actor paired the bright suit with a subdued tie and gelled hairdo.

Tom Hiddleston

Known for playing the seductively complex villain Loki in the Marvel movies, the British actor Tom Hiddleston looked dashing at the Wimbledon championships this year. Sporting a rare bearded look, he opted for refined spectacles and a sharp navy-blue suit, well complemented by a light blue shirt and navy tie.

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel

No best dressed list is complete without a Hollywood A-list couple. Justin Timberlake was spotted at the tournament on Tuesday, looking incredibly smart in his grey suit, which he opted to pair with a black shirt. By his side was the gorgeous Jessica Biel, who took the floral route with a midi dress, nicely complemented with a taupe trench coat, British style.

Tennis Players' Dress Code

A strict dress code still applies for those who compete in the Wimbledon championships. Players at Wimbledon must:

  • Only wear white, and white means white—not off-white and most certainly not cream.
  • This only white rule applies to shoes as well. Large and visible brand logos are not acceptable.
  • And yes, all-white also extends to undergarments.
  • Be aware that patterns and trims are allowed, but there must be no mass of colour that exceeds the width of a centimetre.
