Although the critically acclaimed exhibition Diana: Her Fashion Story at Kensington palace has now ended, a small new display has opened. The Diana: Designing for a Princess exhibit now showcases gowns worn by the late Princess of Wales and features a series of sketches by British fashion designer David Sassoon.

The centrepiece for the new Diana: Designing for a Princess exhibition is a dress designed by Catherine Walker

The exhibit’s centrepiece is an evening dress designed by French couturier Catherine Walker. Diana wore the Thai-inspired gown in 1988 at a state dinner in Bangkok. Notes written for the exhibition reveal that the dress and lotus she wore in her hair for the occasion was a ‘subtle tribute’ to the national dress of Thailand.

Her iconic gowns neighbour eight hand drawn sketches by one of Diana’s favourite designers, David Sassoon. Each individual drawing honours a memorable piece worn by the Princess.

One of the eight sketches features a dress designed for Lady Diana when she was pregnant with Prince William.
