Behold, the diamond-encrusted finery that topped flamboyance on the MET Gala red carpet

How does one bring ‘camp’ to the jewellery circuit at the 2019 MET Gala? Hollywood stars pulled off the theatrical theme effortlessly as seen on the red carpet, but without the flamboyant finish of their bejewelled accessories, camp wouldn’t make the style pitch. Here, we take a closer look at the high jewellery looks that stole the show.

1. Jennifer Lopez

The quinstessential queen of camp, J.Lo was clad in top-to-toe diamonds. She wore USD $8.8 million worth of Harry Winston jewellery to the gala, including a 129.48 carat purple dragon necklace of purple sapphire and diamonds. She also donned a pair of vintage 1972 chandelier earrings, and special cut bracelets and rings.

2. Bella Hadid

You can’t get any more extra than Bella Hadid, who enrobed in an elegant black Moschino gown encrusted with multi-hued jewels all over, on her gloved sleeves, her neckline, and even around a hip cutout. Framing her face was a pair of Lorraine Schwartz emeralds of over 90 carats.

3. Awkwafina

Golden girl Awkwafina accessorised her gold-sheen Altuzarra dress with a pair of Bvlgari Serpenti earrings and a Diva’s Dream ring, that brought out the drama of her trophy-like ensemble.

4. Gal Gadot

Gal kept her camp look compact and angelic, in a Givenchy haute couture spring summer 2019 outfit featuring wings made of lace, and an ornamental headpiece featuring crystals and pearls. The rest of her jewellery were from Tiffany, from the diamond tassel earrings down to a host of rings.

5. Serena Wiliams

The Audemars Piguet brand ambassador took her A-Game to the MET Gala court, accessorising her yellow Versace gown with De Grisogono rings and a statement AP Royal Oak timepiece. The fully diamond-studded beauty probably rivaled most of the men’s wrist fashion at the event.

6. Janelle Monáe

To say that her ensemble sent hearts aflutter is an understatement. To complete her hi-tech, art history look, Janelle donned a pair of eye-popping Hanut Singh Starbust earrings in semicircles of diamond, ruby and onyx spikes, and 2 white diamond rings by Stefere jewellery.

7. Priyanka Chopra & Nick Jonas

The power couple made well of the MET Gala dress code, in ensembles of diamonds and architectural splendours by Chopard. Priyanka accessorised in a number of pieces such as the pink sapphire briolettes, 3 pendant necklaces from the Happy Diamonds collection, and a multitude of dazzling bracelets from the haute joaillerie collection. Nick dripped in a 40.12 carat pear-shaped diamond necklace, a precious lace collection ring from the Green Carpet collection, and an Imperiale collection timepiece.

8. Winnie Harlow

Chopard decorated many a leading lady, including Julianna Moore, Amber Valleta and Alexa Chung. But our absolute favourites was Winnie Harlow, who piled on the bling in true camp style. Winnie Harlow embodied her Caribbean roots in a look that featured a House of Malakai couture headpiece, Chopard 49.99 carat coloured diamond necklace, 10.03 carat earrings, a 7.12-carat pear-shaped fancy yellow diamond ring and a ring from the Imperiale collection.

9. Lady Gaga

Riding on her Tiffany & Co. jewellery wave from January's Golden Globe Awards, Lady Gaga was a force on the red carpet ‘camp’ front, from her effervescent wardrobe changes to the striking, complementary Tiffany & Co. pieces. A 2019 Tiffany Blue Book Collection necklace with silk-like, 18k yellow gold butterfly wings and princess-cut diamonds adorned her collarbone. She finished with a range of Tiffany & Co. rings, including a 15-carat Tiffany T True ring.

10. Lily Collins

Cartier dressed a host of red-carpet stunners and we're particularly falling over ourselves at the vision that Lily Collins is, decorated with the Cartier Magnitude high jewellery collection. For her look, she chose the rarest stones of emeralds, rock crystal, onyx, black lacquer and more, in a necklace, earrings and Pluie de Cartier 18k white gold and diamond ring.

11. Penélope Cruz

Although Penélope Cruz skirted the camp theme with a vintage Chanel gown from spring 1987, she took it in chic stride by finishing off with a pair of Atelier Swarovski by Penélope Cruz fine jewellery Luna earrings. Made with Swarovski created diamonds and topaz in 18k white gold, these crescent-shaped pieces exemplified the definition of understated.
