Who Is Lady Gabriella Windsor And When Is The Next Royal Wedding?
2018 was the year of royal weddings—with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle first tying the knot on May 19, and Princess Eugenie marrying long-time beau Jack Brooksbank on October 12. While Princess Beatrice—who is now dating millionaire Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi—won’t be ringing the wedding bells anytime soon, there’s another royal wedding just months away.
The bride? Lady Gabriella Windsor, the daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent. She got engaged to her boyfriend of three years, Thomas Kingston in August last year when he proposed on the Isle of Sark. Here’s what we know about the royal and her upcoming wedding.
1/4 The Bride
2/4 The Groom
Often described as “the most eligible man in London”, groom-to-be Thomas Kingston—also known as Tom—works in frontier market investment and is a director of Devonport Capital. But prior to working in finance, Tom, who graduated from Bristol University with a bachelor’s degree in economic history worked in Baghdad as a project officer for the Iraqi Institute of Peace, which is responsible for mediating conflicts between Iraq’s leaders and negotiating the release of hostages.
Interesting fact: Tom used to date Kate Middleton’s sister, Pippa Middleton, back in 2011. Though the romance was short-lived, their friendship has remained strong, with Tom and Lady Gabriella attending Pippa’s wedding in 2017. He was also in a relationship with one of Prince William’s rumoured ex-girlfriends, Natalie Hicks-Lobbecke.
3/4 The Wedding
So when will the ceremony take place? The date has been set on May 18, and it will take place at St George’s Chapel, followed by a reception at Frogmore House in Windsor—like Prince Harry and Meghan, and Princess Eugenie and Jack did. Unlike the two royal bashes last year however, this event will be relatively private—this means no members of the public will be invited, nor will it be televised. There will also not be a carriage procession.
4/4 The Guest List
Not much has been revealed about the guest list, but Prince William, who is the president of the Football Association will definitely have to give it a miss, as he is expected to present the FA Cup to the winners at Wembley on the same day—he had already missed the annual event last year for Prince Harry and Meghan’s nuptials.
Senior members of the royal family, like Queen Elizabeth, are also not likely to attend. This is because “it may be a bit distant,” according to royal author Robert Jobson. Her brother, Lord Frederick Windsor’s wedding to Sophie Winkleman in 2009 was poorly attended by the royals, with the exception of Princess Eugenie—who will most probably be on the guest list.
It doesn’t help that Lady Gabriella’s mother, Princess Michael of Kent, is rather unpopular with the royal family, having earned the nickname of “Princess Pushy”. She is known to make racially insensitive remarks, even wearing an inappropriate blackamoor brooch on her first meeting with Meghan, who is biracial.
