Like when our Havana Nights dancefloor put the Thonglor nightlife scene to shame

A lot went down last Thursday when we celebrated our 27th anniversary with the Thailand Tatler Ball 2018. Under the theme of "Havana Nights", the event saw Thailand's most distinguished faces gathered at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok, dressed head-to-toe in stylish Cuban-inspired attire. From who was there to what went down, we've gathered a list of the key moments of the night so you can catch up on what you missed.

The Car

Not just any car, we had a stunning Mercedes-AMG GT C right in the middle of our entrance foyer. Oozing cutting-edge design and dream-car vibes that would make any car aficionado look on in longing, the sports car was a regal welcome for our guests at the party. It also turned out to be one of the best party photo-opps, the most common question of the night being “can I get a picture with the car?”

The Red Carpet Arrivals

Thai high-society has always been known for enjoying life to the fullest, in style and glamour. And with a theme like ‘Havana Nights’, you couldn't expect any less from our elite guests. Dressed in vibrant colours and bedazzling prints and pulling off some of the most daring accessories with poise, the red carpet at our Thailand Tatler Ball 2018 was like a fashion catwalk in itself. Shutter-snaps could be heard long before entering the main foyer, along with joyous exclamations as hi-sos spotted familiar hi-sos.

The Ambassadors

This year, our event was graced by the presence of the Cuban Ambassador HE Héctor Conde Almeida, along with his wife Thelma Alina Picans Esnard and daughter Elena Olivia Conde Picans. He was joined by ambassadors of other Latin American countries, including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Columbia, Mexico and Peru.

The Colours

As our guests came on point and on theme, we followed suit by going all out with venue decorations. Probably the most colourful Thailand Tatler Ball yet, the Grand Ballroom of the Grand Hyatt Erawan was filled with splashes of colour, from fruits to florals, setting the scene for a true night out in Havana.

The Cuban-Inspired Cocktail Bar

In a nutshell: lots of people, lots of rum.

The Dance Performances

As part of our event entertainment, we invited professional Latin dancers to liven things up in the ballroom, and they did exactly that, filling the dance floor with spectacular energy and fierce moves.

… And The Guest Participation

Who said high-society doesn’t know how to party? Our professional performers weren’t the only ones who took advantage of the in-hall dance floor. With a party soundtrack of irresistible dance tunes, it wasn’t long before everyone—unfazed by weighty hair-pieces or trailing gowns—was up on the dance floor, partying the night away.

When Everyone Decided To Play London Bridge

Chairman Nigel Oakins clearly had a lot of fun.

Editor-In-Chief Naphalai Areesorn’s Stunning Hairdo

It isn’t easy to look amazing at a ball and nail the theme 100%. Not easy, but Thailand Tatler’s editor-in-chief, Naphalai Areesorn, proved that it's not entirely impossible. Look at this incredible self-made headdress. Now that's what they mean in fashion when they say "make it work!"

Deputy Editor Alisa Mekmanee In Bangs

Another surprising look during the evening was deputy editor Alisa Mekmanee’s new bangs. She looked so stunning we’re still trying to persuade her to keep the look for good.

The Thailand Tatler Ball 2018 Awards Ceremony

Following our yearly tradition, there was an awards ceremony. This year, we had awards in nine different categories: A Thailand Tatler Best Residential Award, Best Dress for male and female, Most Eligible Man, Most Eligible Woman, Most Stylish Man, Most Stylish Woman and last but not least Person of the Year. To see who won the awards and get to know the awardees, see here.
