Meet The Philanthropist Behind Princess Pa's Cup Asian Beach Polo 2019 Championship
On Saturday, April 27, 2019, Princess Pa’s Cup Asian Beach Polo Championship returns for yet another seaside sporting event with a philanthrophic touch. Supported by B.Grimm, Intercontinential Hua Hin Resort and Proud Real Estate, the championship aims to raise funds towards Nabha Foundation. Ekaphop Detkriangkraisorn, vice president of Nabha under HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha’s patronage, explains to Thailand Tatler the foundation's charitable endeavours.
Tell us about how the foundation got started.
Nabha foundation started because we saw that there are those who lack opportunity in life. Before that, we were the royal project office under the patronage of HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha. HRH established the Nabha foundation as an extension to the project upon seeing that the business was going steady.
Who are the people that the foundation aims to help?
There are many different groups of people who are in need for opportunity, but the ones we see most in need for intervention are inmates, due to the closed environment they are in. There are many other groups we are helping, but female inmates are our main focus.
How does the foundation help those in need?
Helping inmates only when they are under carceration is not sustainable enough. Because we want them to be able to really live in the outside world, we’ve expanded our aid to freed prisoners. These people received their punishment in jail, and they need to be able to function as a citizen when they are released. For that to happen, they need skills to become a workforce in society. We help teach them these skills.
Another problem is the stigma that society has against them. To solve that, we established a brand called Chann to support them. Freed inmates work here until they are ready to enter society. Chann in Thai means the moon, something they don't have the chance to see in jail.
Where does the foundation find its funding?
Because Nabha is not supported by any governmental organisation, we rely on merchandising and events like the Beach Polo. This is the 10th year the beach polo has been goin on. For this year, there will be different products made from the different groups of people we are helping on sale at the event. For example, there will be leather work and resin art made by those under our care up for auction and sale at the Beach Polo event.
Lend support to female inmates and other disadvantaged this weekend at Princess Pa’s Cup Asian Beach Polo Championship, or visit fb.com/channbynabha to learn more. Nabha also has a shop at Duty Free Suvarnabhumi.
