Naphalai's week began with a glamourous photoshoot with HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana

It was International Women's Day last Friday.

There were quite a few events to mark the occasion, including an interesting dinner featuring 10 women chefs held at the Banyan Tree. I would have liked to attend but couldn't because I had to go to something else. But I did participate in the recognition of royal woman power with two events honouring HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana.

Photoshoot With The Princess

The first was a dinner to congratulate the talented designer Princess on receiving the Silpathorn Award in fashion and accessories design. Held at Ban Suriyasai, it was an exclusive and elegant affair, with the ladies in evening dresses and the men in black tie. Her Royal Highness, in a beautiful sequinned gown, spoke about her journey as a designer and thanked those who had helped and supported her. And as this was an event of fashion people, a backdrop had been set up for well-known photographer Wasan Puengprasert to shoot the guests with the royal guest of honour.

Little Wild By Her Royal Highness

The next day, the Princess displayed another of her talents, this time as a photographer. Leica's Danai Sorakraikitikul organised an exhibition of her works taken on a trip to Kenya at the Leica Gallery at Gaysorn Village. Her Royal Highness presided over the opening of Little Wild exhibition, which presented her 34 images of wildlife and the African landscape, and will be on show until April 28. The pictures have also been collated into a book available at 999 baht.

Levi's "I Shape My World" Event

Another event celebrating women was organised by Levi’s called I Shape My World, to introduce inspiring women including Dr Lalana Kongtoranin, a doctor who opened a clinic to help the poor, photographer Supattra Munsawaeng and triathlete Arjaree Kiatfeungfoo. Held at About Work, it was hosted by Peter Hornby, vice president for fashion apparel of DKSH Thailand.

Vvon Sugunnasil's First Show

Still on fashion, Thattaworn Sugunnasil hosted his first-ever show for his Vvon Sugunnasil brand. Known for his well-cut suits and shirts, the fashion show presented variations of this for both men and women. A huge crowd turned out for the event, held in the open space in front of King Power Mahanakhon, which was sponsored by Citibank. An after-party followed for the designer and his many friends.

Finnish brand Marimekko meanwhile presented its spring/summer collection at Neilson Hays Library. Joining Tanapong Chirapanidchakul, CEO of Thanachira, the distributor of Marimekko, were society figures clad in the brand’s signature bright and colourful print dresses.

LGT Launches In Thailand

Executives officiate launch of LGT Securities Thailand

I also attended three press conferences, the first for LGT, a private banking and asset management group owned by the Liechtenstein royal family. Chairman HSH Prince Philipp von und zu Liechtenstein flew in for the opening of its Bangkok office, LGT Securities Thailand, accompanied by HSH Prince Hubertus Alois von und zu Liechtenstien and HSH Prince Max von und zu Liechtenstein. LGT was founded over 80 years ago and manages assets of over US$200 billion for wealthy individuals.

Another press conference was for dwp architecture and design consultancy to announce its signature collections. These are collaborations with design masters to take design customisation to the next level. Group CEO Brenton Mauriello introduced the designers including Jordy Fu, Anne Carson, Gary Szillich, Matthew Campbell Laurenza. The press conference was followed by a cocktail party.

'Le Petit Chef' New Innovative Culinary Experience

Then there was a press conference held by Park Hyatt to introduce Le Petit Chef, a culinary experience using 3D visual technology to create an animated show on the tablecloth. The innovative culinary journey will be launched at the hotel’s Embassy Room from March 27 until July 31, with a five-course dinner menu.

With Veekrit Palarit at Hay

I also stopped by the Norse Republics showroom at Sukhumvit 49 to check out the new household collection from Danish brand Hay and was welcomed by managing director Veekrit Palarit.

Tea With Bulbul

I then had tea at TWG Salon at the Emporium with Jacob Juul, the Danish founder and CEO of Bulbul watches, who was introducing his timepieces designed by the world-famous KiBiSi Design Studio. Juul talked about how he got into the business, which now sells these minimalist-design watches in 20 markets around the world. In Thailand, they are distributed by Chachadapa Vichitrananda.

A Christie's Lunch

There was also a lunch hosted by Christie’s Thailand representative Prapavadee Sophonpanich to catch up with Hong Kong-based Lee Bingle at Savelberg restaurant. It was good to hear from him the latest updates in the auction business.
