WHY GO? The carefully curated Thai cuisine on the elaborate menu is better than most places, and something of a revelation. The fresh-looking interior evokes a modern European diner and its small size ensures immediate personalised service.
WHAT TO ORDER? Long-lost recipes passed to the owner by his khunyai (grandmother) are the star here. Begin with the signature stir-fried dry crab roe dusted with Himalayan salt and a chilli-and-garlic mix with steamed crab meat. Yum som-o krueng srong is a piquant pomelo salad topped with shelled grilled pawns, shredded sweet pork and chicken, plus ground dry shrimp, resulting in a generous and complex dish. Another big cool salad is larb mushroom with chopped onions and fresh mint. A must-try here is the signature grilled pork collar of five brilliantly prepared, delicately soft chunks of pork collar, each with a slightly bitter chamuang leaf stuck into the meat and accompanied by seared rice cakes. Salak in syrup is a brisk and icy fruit dessert which is not too sweet and a good way to finish. Alternatively try Supanniga's take on fresh mango and sticky rice. The restaurant also operates Supanniga Cruise, dinner on a boat on the Chao Phraya River.
Drinks Impressive fruit martinis and other cocktails, plus Mekhong whisky combinations, Laotian and Thai beers and a reasonable selection of white and red wines.
