WHY GO? Delighting patrons since 1974, Royal Cliff Resort has long been the Grande Dame of hotels in the region and its Royal Grill outlet enjoys widespread recognition for serving excellent cuisine.

WHAT TO ORDER? The restaurant is a retreat from the real world. Buried in the bowels of the hotel and beautifully appointed, it is the ideal stage for the wonderful offerings from the kitchen. Most of the staff have been with the restaurant for years so the service is very good. For starters try scallops either pan-fried or carpaccio and served with frise salad, fava beans and a beetroot puree. Also divine is escalope of duck foie gras, which is cooked in a rich sauce. Baked dover sole comes with mixed vegetables and nut butter mashed potatoes. It is a very light fish and a brilliant counter to the foie gras. For a fine steak try the Australian rib-eye. The beef is brought to the table and your selection is cut as per your appetite. It is then grilled just as you like it and served with a medley of vegetables and a piquant black pepper sauce. The only way to end a fine meal in such elegant surroundings is with a flourish, which is provided by the restaurant’s famous crepes suzette flambeed at the table.

Drinks For the 10th year in succession Royal Cliff has been recognised for its outstanding wine programme in the Wine Spectator’s 2018 Restaurant Wine List Awards. The cellar below the hotel contains more than 1,000 celebrated labels.
