WHY GO? The Royal Cliff Hotel dominates the heights of Pratumnak hill. The hotel is recognised as a grande dame in the region and Caprice is a jewel in its crown.

WHAT TO ORDER? The restaurant is located in the hotel's Royal Wing overlooking lush gardens and the beach. Start with grilled scallops, which are plump and juicy and served with fresh asparagus on a bed of crisp lettuce. The menu is fairly concise with a strong bias towards steaks. Slowcooked rack of lamb is of pink and tender perfection while the decadent pan-fried duck foie gras arrives with a rich sauce. A lighter option from the sea is dover sole with mixed vegetables and nut butter mashed potato. As the restaurant is famous for its meats it is impossible not to try an Australian rib-eye steak, which is grilled and sliced at the table. It comes with a fine vegetable selection, roasted potato and a black pepper sauce. Most cuts are enough to feed two. The only way to complete a fine meal in such elegant surrounding is with a flourish and that is certainly provided by the restaurant's famous crepe suzette, also flambed at the table.

Drinks With access to Royal Cliff's award-winning cellar containing more than 1,000 celebrated labels, Caprice offers a choice ranging from the extravagant to the much more modest. A good selection of pre-dinner cocktails is also available.
