WHY GO? Award-winning celebrity chef Ton, or Thitid Tassanakajohn, is known for his reinterpretation of Thai cuisine into superb fine dining. Using seasonal ingredients, Le Du delights diners with tasting menus of four- or six-courses featuring Western influences. Best enjoyed with wine pairings.
WHAT TO ORDER? Starters begin with the tender sous vide sea bass delicately wrapped in betal leaf with a smooth lime mousse and starfruit fruit salad. An eyeopening dish is the reinterpreted khao chae using jasmine ice cream instead of the traditional iced jasmine rice, eaten with pork and prawn ball, curry shrimp paste and turnip puree. The sweet ice cream contrasts with other ingredients surprisingly well. An excellent fish dish is steamed grouper with crispy fried skin, smooth pumpkin puree, southern bitter beans and fish stomach curry sauces. On the rich side is river prawn with khao kluk kapi, or rice in aromatic shrimp paste, pork belly jam and crispy fried egg redolent of fresh ginger, chilli and red onions. Two main courses, char-grilled pork jowl with five spices and beef short ribs, are tender and cooked pink. The beef is accompanied by a rich and creamy green curry sauce. Finish with the divine jackfruit ice cream and tamarind gel atop cocoa charcoal crumble.
Drinks A good selection of New and Old World wines at reasonable prices. Do try the curated pairings.
