WHY GO? Always among the top-rated Italian restaurants in Bangkok. Renovated in 2018, La Scala has a new executive chef, Italiantrained American Anthony Burd.
WHAT TO ORDER? Enjoy a glass of chilled prosecco and start with pan-seared Hokkaido scallops with mushroom sauce, black truffle and crispy parma ham. The velvety softness of the scallop contrasts with the crispy ham nicely. Also good is Australian wagyu beef carpaccio with parmigiana reggiano and crispy rocket. The beef is succulent and offset by the saltiness of the cheese. The signature linguine with Brittany blue lobster in its own jus with fresh tomato is recommended. The lobster is firm, fresh and sweet tasting and the pasta cooked to perfect bite. For a main course of fish do try another signature dish, pan-fried ocean trout with lemon and fennel sauce. A meaty alternative is Stockyard wagyu beef striploin served with grilled japanese leek and smoked guanciale. With a marbling score of 7, the beef is ultra tender and full of lingering flavour. Finish with a magnificent dessert of sgroppino prepared at the table—a zesty and refreshing confection of vodka and lemon ice cream with prosecco and limoncello cappuccino.
