WHY GO? Secluded in what used to be the private room of Lord Jim’s at Mandarin Oriental Bangkok, this 10-seater is the only branch of renowned Kinu by feted chefowner Takagi Kazuo outside Japan. Monthly updated seasonal menus and regularly imported fresh ingredients make this an exclusive dining destination for refined Kyotostyle kaiseki.
WHAT TO ORDER? Diners are in the good hands of the chef de cuisine who has worked with Kazuo for two decades. His 10-course kaiseki menu delightfully opens with artistic morsels of amuse bouche, or zensai. Oysters, scallops, clams and fresh fish such as kinmedai, amadai, sakura-masu and cherry salmon are carefully cut, prepared and served on vintage Japanese lacquerware. Kinu’s signature calling card of abalone in abalone liver sauce boasts a crescendo of umami and tenderness. Lightly grilled wagyu beef from Kyoto has wonderful aromas and melts on the tongue. Sake and white chocolate ice cream with strawberries from Japan make a refreshing finale alongside fragrant freshly whisked matcha served in a raku bowl. The journey is enhanced by impeccable and knowledgeable service.
Drinks An impressive list of sake from Nagano and other sources plus a full list of Old and New World wines. Sake and wine pairing options perfectly match the degustation menu available.
