WHY GO? Located in a chic shopping mall, this intimate Japanese restaurant offers 12 diners sophisticated tempura menus. Premium seafood and fish are flown from Japan, carefully battered and delicately fried by two engaging Japanese master chefs.
WHAT TO ORDER? Whether dining at lunch or dinner, on arrival one is presented with options in terms of number of courses and a la carte add-ons. Omakase choices are normally left up to the chef, however here one is offered a little flexibility on this journey. Whilst the fish, seafood and vegetables served are dependent on what has been received from Japan that day, one is also asked about preferences and allergies. With the exception of the stylish appetiser, which includes pearlescent scallop and an absolutely stellar persimmon canape, all dishes are tempura style. Courses invariably consist of crispy fried prawn head, tasty sandfish, mouth-melting cod and sweet Hokkaido crab, all exquisitely presented. Highlights are the tender ocean-fresh abalone and sublime uni. Vegetables impress with the memorable sweet potato and earthy mushroom. The truly special kagoshima wagyu rounds off the experience. Desserts are simple but also elegantly executed.
Drinks An extensive list of sakes is offered in addition to a well-priced range of wines, the majority from France, with several gems available by the glass.
