WHY GO? Magnificent Chinese dishes arrayed on a seemingly endless menu make this unpretentious, dimly lit, romantic dining room the place to celebrate with a wonderful meal. The choices are all worthy of a taste.
WHAT TO ORDER? Fei Ya’s lychee wood-roasted peking duck may be the best in Bangkok. A very large bird is carved at the table. The crispy skin is enjoyed immediately but the meat can be served six different ways with a choice of mushroom, garlic, onion and pickled vegetables. Some like the duck meat in a soup but a solid recommendation is to have it wokfried with black pepper sauce. Follow with another signature dish—braised scallops with fresh bean curd roll in abalone sauce. The serving is big enough for two with plump tender scallops and vegetables in a thick liquid. King oyster mushrooms with winter melon and pumpkin sauce is a surprise. It is full of big chunks of melon and mushroom, which provide interesting contrasts in both texture and flavour. To finish, chilled lemongrass iced jelly with aloe vera in lime juice is a wonderful dessert and tastes like sweet lemonade in a cone-shaped glass.
Drinks Absinthe is merely one of the unusual choices on an extensive list of wines, spirits, cocktails and all sorts of mixes.
