WHY GO? This cool, tranquil venue is worth visiting for good Chinese food, especially its peking duck. There is also plenty of seafood, including shellfish and other creatures of the deep. Vegetarian and other healthy choices ensure a good meal.
WHAT TO ORDER? Iron Chef Thanarak Chuto has more than 30 years of experience cooking Cantonese food. The menu is extensive with seafood and various meats prepared in different ways available, including specialities such as fresh abalone. Steamed mushroom caviar dumplings are a good way to begin your meal. It is a palate-stimulating start and sets up a signature dish called monk jumps over the wall, a traditional soup brimming with fish maw, shark fin, mushroom and many other ingredients. The masterpiece here though is peking duck which arrives with a dazzling array of plates, glass containers, baskets and a bamboo steamer. This is a hands-on feast and condiments are on hand to be rolled in thin pancakes along with slices of perfectly roasted duck skin. Among the choices of preparation for the meat, try the duck minced—the meat is so good many choose to eat it without anything else. If you have room, mango pudding is a nice sweet note on which to finish.
Drinks Only one white and three red wines are available. Tea, coffee, a selection of beers and fruit juices are aplenty though.
