Allegro has been lovingly conceptualized as an homage to its alma mater, an Italian trattoria. Its high ceiling is adorned with Tuscan-inspired scagliola, its open kitchen sizzles with flames and wafts of aromas and even its eclectic tableware was designed on theme.

The menu is vast and diners may struggle with narrowing down a choice, so the degustation board of salumi and prosciutti served with homemade pickles may be a good starting point. If you aren’t one for sharing then try the classic tuna tartare with avocado, sweet red onion fondant, creamy burrata cheese, quail egg and cured tuna roe bottarga, a refreshingly cool starter on a hot day. Lovers of beef may arguably find the cooked to order and truly tender black angus onyx 300-day grain fed rib-eye with a rich but not overpowering red wine and shallot sauce served with daily roasted vegetables one of the best steaks anywhere in Chiang Mai. Alternatively, if you are looking for a lighter bite then try linguini con le vongale, which is similarly bursting in celebration of juicy flavours.

As a restaurant in such a large resort, the wine menu is more than solid; it is huge. Prices start reasonably around 1,300 baht and go up…and up. There is also a great selection of cocktails and spirits, should you prefer.
