When art elevates life

Earlier this week, Chinese American cellist Yo-Yo Ma was in Hong Kong for a concert celebrating the 60th anniversary of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Also, ahead of the one-night-only performance with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, he attended a panel—A Dialogue on Music and Future Leadership—at CUHK, and Tatler sat down with the musician to talk about cultural appropriation, music as a service, and why AI will never replace humans in the arts.

Maybe that’s because the human spirit is capable of so many great and beautiful things. Take for example, Stephanie Au, Camille Cheng and Jamie Yeung—three young Olympic swimmers who founded Mind The Waves, an organisation that focuses on the youth’s mental health; or Wendy Yu, a fashion entrepreneur and founder of Yu Holdings and the Yu Prize, who works to shine a spotlight on the next generation of Chinese designers. We’re also capable of making wonderful memories. And for our Tatler community, many of those memories were made at our annual Tatler Ball events.

Until next week, happy Friday!
