Breaking barriers: How Maggie Grout is making education accessible through 3D-printed schools

At the age of 15, Maggie Grout founded Thinking Huts, a non-profit organisation aimed at increasing global access to education by using architectural 3D printing to construct schools in developing countries. Grout, who was abandoned in a rural village in China and later adopted by an American couple, recognised the transformative power of education in her own life and wanted to provide the same opportunities to others.

One of the significant achievements of Thinking Huts was the opening of Madagascar's first 3D printed school in April 2022, which demonstrated the organisation's resilience and determination in the face of challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Grout's vision remains unchanged—to ensure every child has the opportunity to achieve their dreams. Read on to find out how this young founder faced the challenge of balancing multiple responsibilities and navigating male-dominated industries.
