Did you think that her Golden Globe nominations were her peak? It was just the beginning
Award-winning actress Dolly de Leon cements her status in the film industry by being the first Filipina actress invited to be a member by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), the organisation behind the annual Oscars, last June 29.
In case you missed it: Out of the shadows: Dolly de Leon
There has been a selection of talented Filipinos in the past that got invited as well, particularly filmmakers like PJ Raval, Baby Ruth Villarama, and Ditsi Carolino, or even the likes of Walt Disney Animation Studios story artist and animator Josie Trinidad, Pixar story artist Trevor Jimenez, animator and Oscar nominee Bobby Pontillas, and producer and Emmy Award winner Lisa Valencia-Svensson.
De Leon, however, is the first Filipina actress to be invited, particularly in The Academy's Actors branch—proof of her emerging prestige in the industry.
The actress took to Twitter to share her feelings on the invitation, replying to a congratulatory post by Janet Nepales, a journalist and author from Hollywood. She replied to the tweet with, “Intense! [Sparkles emoji]”
