Cover Art SG 2024 concludes with record attendance and solid sales reported by galleries

The first major art fair of the year wrapped with galleries reporting solid sales and a record attendance of over 45,000

Art SG, Southeast Asia’s leading international contemporary art fair concluded its second edition last Sunday with resounding success. Held at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre from January 19 to 21, with a preview day and private vernissage on January 18, the fair attracted a record attendance of 45,303 visitors.

The fair showcased a dynamic lineup of 114 galleries from over 30 countries, which reported solid sales to collectors from around the world.

“Our participating galleries reported swift and robust sales at this buzzy and energetic edition. In addition, we are also proud of the city’s arts scene and how it has embraced [the fair] for Singapore Art Week 2024,” says Magnus Renfrew, co-founder of Art SG.

With works placed in major private and institutional collections following the fair, galleries highlighted that it was a great platform for networking, having incited an enthusiastic response from both established and emerging collectors.

Notable sales by galleries include: An Anselm Kiefer piece at Thaddeaus Ropac for €1.1 million, a range of works by Hiroshi Senju, Jane Lee, Miya Ando, and Zheng Lu sold by Sundaram Tagore for a combined total of over US$1 million, and two sculptures by Barry Flanagan, and another unnamed work sold by Waddington Custot to a Chinese resident of Singapore for US$680,000.

Besides functioning as a platform for art acquisition, Art SG unfolded alongside the activities of leading cultural institutions, private art foundations and galleries across the city which hosted exhibition openings and special events as part of Singapore Art Week, which enriched the cultural experience for attendees.

Art SG 2024, organised by The Art Assembly and presented by UBS, not only solidified its position on the international cultural calendar but also showcased the vibrancy of Southeast Asia’s art scene. The next iteration of ART SG will take place January 17 to 19, 2025.
