Rolls-Royce And RED Collaborate On A Phantom To Fight AIDS
Rolls-Royce has announced its partnership with RED, one of the world’s leading AIDS organisations. The auto company has created a bespoke version of the auto company’s iconic Phantom, and will be auctioned off later this month at Sotheby’s.
The paint job on the special edition Phantom is more than meets the eye. The surface has fine crystal evenly distributed throughout the finishing layers to leave an illuminated look that creates a certain sense of depth. The varnish was created by the Rolls-Royce design engineers, who developed it using five layers, each of which are hand-polished for more than five hours.
The handcrafted interior has been finished in Brilliant Arctic White and bright Mugello Red highlights to pull the luminous colourway together.
The bidding starts at US$450,000 and includes a Rolls-Royce Bespoke Commissioning and Craftsmanship Book that’s said to be a collector’s item in and of itself. Whoever takes home the limited edition Phantom will also have the option of creating a custom wrap for the car’s exterior in collaboration with American artist Mickalene Thomas based on a piece of her original artwork.
