Everything You Need To Know About 'Becoming', Michelle Obama's Netflix Documentary
Netflix has announced that it will be releasing a documentary film about the life of former First Lady, Michelle Obama. Named after her best-selling memoir, Becoming, the show promises a never-before-seen, intimate look of her life and how it changed during her time at White House.
Directed by Nadia Hallgren, the film follows her around the 34 cities she visited to promote her publication in 2018 and 2019—an event that had the scale of a rock tour, selling out arenas across America.
The former First Lady shared a tweet saying she aimed to share the stories of the amazing people she met on the book tour and hopes that the documentary will bring inspiration and joy at the current time.
“I treasure the memories and that sense of connection now more than ever, as we struggle together to weather this pandemic, as we care for our loved ones, tend to our communities, and try to keep up with work and school while coping with huge amounts of loss, confusion, and uncertainty.”
Becoming is the latest work under the belt of Higher Ground Productions, a production company founded by Barack and Michelle. Their exclusive multi-film deal with Netflix has already been rewarding. Their first film, American Factory, won the Academy Award for best documentary earlier this year and Michelle's book has sold more than 11 million copies worldwide, translated into more than 20 languages.
The new documentary drops on the streaming platform on May 6. For a sneak peek, watch the official trailer below.
