Mercedes-Benz unveils the Vision EQS electric sedan at the Frankfurt Motor Show
Mercedes-Benz unveiled its Vision EQS electric sedan concept at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show this past Tuesday. The electric vehicle hints to the automaker’s future in sustainability, while moving beyond simple EV principles.
Mercedes-Benz says the concept was designed around a “fully-variable battery-electric drive platform” that is “scalable and usable on a cross-model basis.” In other words, the goal behind the Vision EQS marks Mercedes’ determination to reach carbon neutrality within its line of vehicles, and while achieving that goal may be well in the future, the automaker’s latest concept shows just how well the luxury market can translate into the green space.
This becomes especially apparent in the vehicle’s Nappa leather (which is vegan), the recycled post-consumer plastic in the headliner, and the maple wood trim, which has been sourced from local German forests that focus on conservation and sustainability.
The concept vehicle’s exterior is also a step in the right direction in terms of achieving carbon neutrality, without sacrificing luxury and innovation. The EQS boasts a series of 188 circuit boards, comprising nearly 1,000 LEDs, while the headlines each have four holographic lenses that can display static images and create holograms.
