Is The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 For You?
When it comes to phones that fold, Samsung is definitely the market leader. Having launched the Galaxy Z Flip earlier this year, the South Korean tech company also released an updated version of its flagship Galaxy Z Fold phone in September. We got our hands on one to test out its functions and figure out whether this phone and us are meant to be.
The Galaxy Z Fold2 comes in two colours, Mystic Black and the more popular Mystic Bronze. Folded, the phone doesn't exact illicit the word "compact" as say the Galaxy Z Flip truly does. The Fold2 is nearly 16 centimetres long, about two centimetres longer than the iPhone 11 Pro, although less wide. The size is fine for purse carriers but perhaps a bit cumbersome for though who hold all their belongings in their pants pockets, not to mention the 13.8mm to 16.8mm thickness of the phone when folded.
Once you open up the phone, however, the horizons of the user experience are, too, unfolded. Featuring a 7.6-inch (19.3 centimetre) AMOLED display with 2208 x 1768 resolution, the screen was built to entertain. It's true, YouTubing or even Netflixing on your phone while waiting forever at an appointment will never be the same again. Photo-editing and other forms of editing are also a lot more convenient with the mini tablet-sized screen. If you're into multitasking, the Fold2 allows for up to three active apps to be on display at once on the big screen. You can also drag and drop content across apps in split-screen mode. So take note, digital nomads, bloggers and influencers.
Although not Samsung's best phone camera by far (the Samsung Note 20 Ultra has a 108-megapixel sensor that allows for digital zooms of 50x and optical zooms of 5x), rest assured that the Fold2's camera is just as great as Z Flip and perhaps better with the extra lenses. There are three lenses on the back of the camera, each of them with a 12-megapixel sensor. Having three lenses, of course, allows for the ultra-wide-angle in addition to the optical 2x zoom. The selfie cameras on the Fold2 aren't bad either. There are two: one for when the phone is folded and one when it's not. Both are 10-megapixel. But in truth, you can actually use the higher quality cameras for your selfies—just see the image below.
Is The Fold2 For You?
As we hinted at earlier, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 is looking to be the phone for digital nomads and content creators who don't aspire to pack heavy on a day-to-day basis—the Emily Coopers of the real world. Consider the Fold2 more of a really convenient tablet than a compact phone. The Galaxy Z Fold2 is just the right mix of work and play, perfect for those with a mirroring lifestyle and want one device that can cover all the bases.
