Mulan is back to bring honour to us all.

During the women’s World Cup final game on Sunday, Disney dropped the first trailer for the Mulan live-action remake starring Chinese-American actress Liu Yifei in the title role.

The video, which is based on the 1998 animated movie, begins with Mulan being paired off to a potential husband by a matchmaker. She then runs away from her family and masquerades as a man to join the famed Imperial army, and the trailer ends with Mulan shooting arrows and swinging her sword to thwart her enemies.

The film features an all-star Chinese cast, including Jet Li as China’s emperor and Gong Li as the film’s villain, a wicked witch.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the remake does away with characters from the original movie, including Mulan’s love interest Li Shang and her sidekick, Mushu. But the new film introduces new characters like Chen Honghui, played by New Zealand actor Yoson An, Mulan’s ally and comrade who eventually becomes her love interest.

To coincide with the trailer, Disney also released the movie’s first official poster, which was photographed by Hong Kong Tatler cover star Chen Man.

“I’m really excited to be part of this project—it’s great to be involved in sharing this classic Chinese folk tale with new audiences around the world,” Chen, a visual artist who has collaborated with Louis Vuitton and Dior, told Tatler Asia in December 2018. “I just hope my work has been able to help facilitate the cultural exchange between China and the West.”

Mulan will be in theatres on March 27, 2020.
