Martin strives to entertain, educate and inspire with his digital content creation company, Lit Lab Studios

Having worked in advertising and social entrepreneurship, Patrick Martin understands the power of a good narrative. He is the co-founder and CEO of Lit Lab Studios, a digital content creation company with a mission to entertain, educate and inspire. The company’s ethos is simple: powerful storytelling through a collaboration of minds.

For years, Martin’s company has disrupted the Philippines’ creative industry and found new ways to discover and develop talent. To date, it has amassed a portfolio of international and local brands, which include The New York Times, H&M, Unilever and Zalora.

Here, Martin describes Lit Lab Studio’s mission and impact in his own words.

As the CEO of the company and the head of a young innovative team, I strive to seek more opportunities to strengthen our voice on the global platform. I also aim to create an environment where the next generation of creatives can improve their craft and be matched with the right opportunities. I want to use this space as a hub to discover and develop new talents. Despite having zero education in video production and video creation, this was applying all that I have learnt while continuously learning in the process. This never stops, and that’s what I love about this technology.

I always do things meaningfully—for myself, my family and my community. Above all, I consider myself a self-made man as my journey has been supported by my finances and efforts from my hard work.

The role of a leader is not to come up with big ideas, but to create an environment where big ideas can happen.

I am motivated by great energy, creativity and the fact that what we do can positively shape social media content in achieving our three-pronged mission.

I am most proud of my team, who get to work on their dreams and vision through the visual storytelling we do in Lit Lab Studios. It inspires me to see my people succeed and feel fulfilled in what they do.

I sometimes question myself and my decisions several times before executing them. I planned to migrate to New York in 2022 to jumpstart our NYC office. But a series of events happened that clearly indicated that my Manila office needed a more robust system and structure to prepare for my departure. It was a struggle because there were a lot of systems and issues that needed to be fixed. These served as excellent motivators for me to do better and give a stronger focus on my vision.

I have learnt to embrace who I am and what I am capable of. This has kept pushing me to take more risks while doing what needs to be done en route to my goals. Self-doubt will come occasionally, but most of the time it is overpowered by my hunger and willingness to grow as an individual and a man for others.

On weekends, you’ll see me climbing the Philippine mountains with friends, enjoying being with my mum to endlessly express my gratitude for how well she raised her eldest son, and just sleeping to recharge for a new week of hustle. During the ‘-ber months, I organised a Christmas gift-giving project for the street kids of Pasig together with my friends and family.
