The arrival of Jay, or Taoist vegan season, in October incites varying emotions from people. For some, Jay season is awesome because it means the greater availability of healthy and environmentally friendly food to support their ethical intent. For others, Jay is a bit of a challenge, a crossroads of wanting to earn good karma but craving meat constantly. Whether you're the former or the latter, this is a list of restaurants that are out to prove this Jay festival that plant-based foods are not second rate. The list begins with a special pop-up dinner and will be ongoing as restaurants update us thoughout the month, so be sure to bookmark this page.

Vegan Vanguards Pop Up At Haoma

For two nights only on October 10 and 11, two of Bangkok's vegan vanguards, Broccoli Revolution and Barefood Bangkok, are teaming up with Haoma sustainable restaurant to present an exciting seven-course Jay gourmet dinner. With such experts of plant-based living behind the kitchen, rest assured that your meal will not only be 100% vegan, as well as Jay (no onion or garlic), but also so fulfilling it'll have you considering a fulltime meatless diet. Dinner will be served from 6:30-11pm at the price of 1700++ baht per person.

Haoma (Again)

If you can't make the Broccoli-Barefood dinner at Haoma, don't be sad. To ensure you get to experience fine Jay meals at Haoma, the restaurant will be serving a vegan menu all throughout the Jay festival (October 8-17) alongside its regular menu. Four-course vegan dinners and brunches are also available for 1,100++ baht per person.

Shangri-La

Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok Offers Vegetarian Dishes at Shang Palace and Next2 Café.JPG

The Shangri-La Hotel will be observing the vegetarian festival, providing high quality vegeratian at both its Shang Palace Chinese Restaurant and NEXT2 Cafe this October 8-17. At Shang Palace, expect Chinese-style vegetarian dishes such as vegetarian dim sum, sweet corn with eight treasures soup, stir-fried tofu with black pepper, wok-friend cashew nuts with water chestnuts and ginkgo. Prices start at 220 baht per dish, and the restaurant is open for lunch and dinner. Alternatively, head to NEXT2 Cafe for an international and Thai vegan lunch, priced at 1,200 baht per person.

Spice Market, Anantara Bangkok Hotel

Starting October 8, Spice Market Thai restaurant at Anatara Bangkok is hosting a 10-day exploration of Thai Jay food. Some of the highlights you can expect from head chef Warinthorn Sumrithphon during this period include kaow op maprow orn—coconut-baked sticky rice with soy protein, veggies, nuts, mushrooms and curry—yam takrai and gaeng som Jay. Spice Market is open daily for lunch and dinner. Dishes start at 280++ baht.

Pagoda Chinese Restaurant, Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen's Park
