Grégoire Blanche’s discerning taste and savoir faire mark him out as a natural modern day Cartier gent. Now celebrating 21 years with the French haute jewellery and watch company, the out-going regional managing director for the maison in Southeast Asia and Australia says that an important source of influence on his career path was his family. “My parents gave me an upbringing in which I was very fortunate to travel extensively, allowing me to explore different cultures and truly develop my curiosity,” he says. “I was also very blessed to have crossed paths with some great educators particularly philosophy and history teachers who really shaped my appreciation for arts and craftsmanship.”

But Blanche did not have a role model growing up. “I am convinced that one has to develop oneself. You can’t really pick someone and say you want to be that person. There are various aspects to individuality and it is important to build your own character,” he says. While many are familiar with the expression, ‘You’re only as good as your last success,’ Blanche has a different sentiment. “My own motto is: You’re only as good as your next accomplishment. For me, that is what truly drives me. And my team knows that—we’re always looking for the next great effort we can work on together.”

For 170 years, Cartier has played a significant role in the history of jewellery design, illustrating a rich story of decorative arts and a progressive invention of styles. While the maison encapsulates a refined yet timeless elegance, Blanche tells us that it is at the same time young in many aspects. “There is a definite evolution,” he says. “Hence being able to engage with, as well as support, up-and-coming creators and influencers offers us great opportunities for our own introspection.”

“There’s a zealous energy—a bold creativity and dynamism—amongst young Thai influencers and leaders that I find particularly eye-opening."

Collaborating with Generation T is therefore a natural fit for the French maison. “What makes the whole idea behind Generation T exciting is that it’s not only about putting in the spotlight people who are very established today, it is also about looking at the real influencers of tomorrow, those in the process of building their own success stories and carrying them into the future,” he says.

From the 50 young high achievers on Thailand Tatler’s inaugural Generation T list, Cartier has chosen 10 diverse talents it deems reflective of the maison. “While they come from very different backgrounds, there are two things they have in common: they all have a long path ahead of them and they are extremely passionate in what they do,” says Blanche. “There’s a zealous energy—a bold creativity and dynamism—amongst young Thai influencers and leaders that I find particularly eye-opening. And I believe that in that sense, they are great embodiments of what Thailand Tatler is aiming to achieve with Generation T—a network of thrusting young professionals who are setting trends for others to follow across all spheres of life.”
