We were supposed to have moved to our new office the past week.
After almost 10 years at the Bubhajit building on Sathorn, we are changing to a new address at the Wall Street Tower on Suriwongse Road. But it seems part of the ceiling collapsed—better now than after we'd moved in!—which meant it was put off by a week. Not that I was looking forward to moving... That part of Suriwongse is seriously congested with cars, vendors, people, etc—much more so than Sathorn. Also I hate to admit it but I am a bit of a hoarder, and it's not an easy task going through and packing all my stuff of 10 years. Wouldn't have been ready if we really had to move last week. But I did make a start and will have to get it done before the movers come this Friday.
Remember the week before I wrote about having been photographed for the SCB M card campaign? Well the launch was last Friday at EmQuartier, and it looked like just about everyone had been invited for The Mall Group's new co-branded credit card with SCB event. No wonder traffic that day was so bad it took one of the guests four hours to arrive at the venue! And no, she wasn't coming from Pattaya but from another part of town. Anyway, the launch was a grand affair with spectacular shows before The Mall's Supaluck Umpujh and SCB's Arthid Nanthawithaya were invited on stage to present the card. This was followed by videos of the 100 people invited to be the first to receive it. This was my big moment—but if you had blinked, you would have missed me completely!
So what else was I up to last week?
Well, there was also the launch of P80, a health drink made from longan together with five bioactive compounds. According to tycoon Prayudh Mahagitsiri, he has been taking it for several years and the results were so impressive that he decided to make it available commercially. The event at The EmQuartier introduced actor Nadech Kugimiya as the presenter. All members of the Mahagitsiri clan were there for the event.
Another entrepreneur who never stops investing is Suriyon Sriorathaikul. Best known for Beauty Gems, he also has his hands in other businesses, with the latest being Beauty 24. This is a multi-brand shop for beauty products which celebrated the opening of its flagship store at Siam Square. There was a lunch for the media followed by a party the next day for guests. Beauty 24, which carries over 250 brands including the best from Thai and Asian makes, also offers an online service.
From beauty to food.
If you're a fan of pancakes, you must drop by Gram Pancakes at Siam Paragon. Baiyoke siblings Piyalert and Kongthong have brought in this Japanese treat, premium pancakes which are light and fluffy unlike any others I’ve tried before. It comes in a stack of three, or you can also just have an individual one as a takeaway. Really yummy.
TWG Tea has also introduced a new dining menu available all day at its refurbished tea salon and boutique at Siam Paragon. A tea salon it may be, but also available are delectable dishes incorporated with tea blends for lunch and dinner. An expanded patisserie counter presents tea-infused cakes and desserts as well as ice cream. It was good to finally meet Jaruwan Sajjavudh, CEO of Italthai Hospitality, local distributor of TWG Tea, who prefers to keep a low profile if her boss Yuthachai Charanachitta is around, which he wasn’t last week.
I also joined in a dinner hosted by PP Group to meet Hong Kong-based Tory Burch communications executives James Yiu and Flora Lee. Flora used to work for Tod’s and it was nice to catch up with her again in her new job. James has just joined the company after spending years working for MAC in New York. The dinner was at Wang Hinghoi, where the fireflies were as much the attraction as the food.
Lamborghini has appointed a new dealer...
Renazzo Motor, a subsidiary of Sharich Holding, and a cocktail was held to celebrate the occasion at Park Hyatt Bangkok. Managing director ML Nathasit Diskul was joined by partners Apichat Leenutaphong and Sak Nana to welcome guests. As was to be expected, the guests consisted mainly of men, all supercar aficionados, who had the opportunity to admire the two latest models: Lamborghini Aventador S Coupe and Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder.
There were three fashion events last week.
The Michael Kors affair wasn’t really an event as it was just to invite the press to see the designer’s graffiti collection, mainly in black and white, at the boutique at Siam Paragon. 3.1 Phillip Lim’s fall 2018 collection was presented in the form of a mini-fashion show at the EmQuartier boutique. Inspired by the spirit of adventure, the outfits show patchworks, metals and studs sewn on blouses and skirts that recall nomad women.
POEM’s new collection celebrated its 12th year with a grand fashion show at Gaysorn Urban Resort. Fashionistas turned up in droves to congratulate Sean Chavanon Caisiri on reaching this milestone. The fashion show featured top models and celebrities wearing the brand’s signature styles based on the curves of a female body.
And finally, Hamilton for the launch of its new watches to mark its 100 years in aviation, having supplied equipment for pilots and co-pilots since 1918. Brand manager Kun Pativetpinyo unveiled the Khaki X-Wind Auto Chrono limited edition collection and Khaki Aviation Day Date Auto 2018. For those who have always imagined themselves flying a plane (me included), a professional flight simulator had been set up at Siam Paragon for them to try their hand. Everything looked so real you could almost believe you were really in the cockpit of a plane.
