We met our cover guy, Capt Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth, at his boutique airline’s headquarters on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road. More used to being on the flight deck or in the boardroom, it is evident that he is somewhat shy in front of a camera. But the genial 55-year-old soon relaxed into our photo shoot and pretty quickly everything was running smoothly.
Good-humoured by nature, the avuncular Puttipong was all smiles and full of patience as our team suggested different poses and adjusted camera angles and lighting. The first session of the shoot took place in a muted private study with shelves of books and a grand sofa set which reflected the serious nature of Puttipong’s original professional calling as a pilot and his current role as president of a successful airline. Placed about the study were models of Bangkok Airways aircraft, modern passenger jets that are a far cry from the small propeller planes first used by the company when it started out as a charter and air-taxi service 50 years ago.
To finish off we moved to a large airy room with huge windows that let in an abundance of natural light. The vibrant blue of the room reflected the signature colour of the Bangkok Airways livery and save for a surprised group of suited executives walking in on the proceedings, the photo shoot flowed seamlessly and was wrapped up in no time.
