Paris-based Vietnamese fashion show producer Jessica Minh Anh is known for taking risk to achieve wow-moments in fashion. Last month, she presented her seventh unconventional runway show on the Seine river in an illusory glass boat to create the effect of models walking on water.
Supported by Compagnie des Bateaux Mouches, Sofitel Paris Le Faubourg, Broncolor, Swarovski, Maison Astor Paris, SteamOne France, Hotel Paris Vaugirard, Bustronome, The Print Inn and Before Bar, the seventh Catwalk on Water also marked its significance by representing collections from exactly seven female designers.
As a model herself, Jessica opened the show establishing its warrior princess theme in an exquisite red haute couture dress by Peruvian designer Ani Alvarex Calderon and accessories by French luxury house De Galluchat. Models trailed after her wearing Ani’s creations, which highlight rich Peruvian culture and sophisticated fabric manipulation techniques.
The following sets showcased the collections of Zoan Ash, a Bangladeshi haute couture label by designer Sultana A, and Jessica Minh Anh X COCOSIN, introducing the fashion guru’s hand at designing. The Zoan Ash set presented gorgeous embellishment work inspired by royal warriors in palettes of deep red, blue and black and beige. Jessica styled herself in a unique piece which was one-half velvet military jacket and one-half elegant gown, sending a message of the duality of female strength. Meanwhile the COCOSIN collection reflected more of Jessica’s own personal Parisian lifestyle with ready-to-wear military blazers, trench coats, midi dresses and pleated skirts.
Luxury handbag brand Nuriyah premiered its new Ottoman and South Asian-infused line of bags in the grand catwalk event, complimented by modernised kimonos from renowned Japanese couture designer Yumi Katsura. The handcrafted bags by female artisans from Turkey, Afghanistan and India against the light silky Japanese gowns formed a stunning imagery of the beauty of pan-asian artistry.
Last but not least, Catwalk on Water presented the elegance of Arabian design powerhouse Atelier Zuhra with a stunning mosaic collection inspired by the Swan Princess. The ethereal grand finale was a breathtaking vision of tulle, lace, feathers, mirrors, embroidered fabrics and feminine beauty.
