It’s officially February and for fashionistas and style icons everywhere, that can only mean one thing: fashion week. The semi-annual event, showcasing collections from the most elite designers, will be taking place throughout this month in the big four fashion capitals, and ahead of London Fashion Week this week we’re watching out for these emerging designers set to make their mark:
1. Laura Laurens
Botogá-based designer Laura Laurens is one to watch out for next week. As each collection of her’s highlights modern world issues, this self-trained designer leads with compassion. With a deep rooted background in fine arts, Laurens uses a distinctive approach to raw design and patterning techniques. She will be showcasing her ongoing collaboration with three LGBTQ+ members of Colombia’s indigenous Emberá community.

Dutch designer Duran Lantink was the brains behind the infamous ‘V’ trousers in Janelle Monae’s PYNK video. Using upcycling methods and collage techniques, Lantink’s designs are innovative and diverse. His maximalism nature is set to turn heads next week.

3. Thebe Magugu
Born and raised in Kimberley, South Africa, Thebe Magugu is inspired by women and their role within South African society today. His designs feature motifs from Africa’s story-rich past but with a forward-looking, global approach.

4. Cedric Mizero
Twenty-four-year-old Cedric Mizero comes from a small village in Western Rwanda. With a unique vision for collaboration and inclusivity, Mizero strives for social change. His bold ‘fashion for all’ project reflects on the value of each individual, putting the men and women of his hometown village at the forefront of his designs.
